Community Employment Scheme [CE]

The Exchange House Ireland CE Scheme, funded by the Department of Social Protection, offers participants an opportunity to engage in useful work within their communities on a part-time temporary, fixed-term basis.

Exchange House Ireland Education and Training Service works to ensure that CE participants have the opportunity to gain skills that will assist them in entering the job market or return to education. This is achieved by offering training in the core areas of:

  • Communications
  • Mathematics
  • Personal effectiveness
  • IT skills
  • Other optional modules

All of our core modules are FETAC (QQI) accredited as are many of the optional ones. The Exchange House CE scheme is made up of men and women from the Traveller community who are diverse in terms of age, education and skill levels.

Community Employment is made up of two major parts, training and work. In terms of work, the CE participants have been involved in:

  • Family Support projects
  • The All Ireland Traveller Health Census
  • Administration Support
  • The National Educational Achievement Award
  • News Travels - Exchange House’s newsletter
  • EU projects
  • Intercultural Presentations
  • Research for various other projects
  • Internal and external work placements
